We’re Going to the NYC Marathon!!

Greetings!! We’ve had a really busy winter and spring season, so I’ve have very little time to blog. But, I had to share our exciting news — I’ve been chosen by the international organization Water for People to represent them in the 2016 NYC Marathon! On November 6th, I will be running with a team of 10 other athletes helping to bring awareness to the world-wide water crisis. As an avid runner, I’m so excited to be running NYC! Running for Water for People makes it possible for me to run in my dream race while raising funds for a cause I truly care about. I think Water for People is a great organization because over their 25 years, they’ve built water stations, pumps, toilet and sanitation facilities in impoverished communities in 9 countries around the world. I also admire the fact that Water for People has a small hands-on staff and its easy to find their accountability information, which is posted throughout their website and social media links. Check it out when you have the …

Eco-friendly Summer Style: Wood Rings & Hemp, Cotton, and Bamboo Jewelry

Greetings! Over the past few weeks, I have been searching high and low for new and interesting fabrics and materials that are not only earth-conscious but super stylish. I also spent some time sorting through mounds of fabric scraps and vintage clothing for inspiration, and I’ve been able to come up with some new products for our shop that I truly enjoyed creating.   This month, we created African Ankara rings, with beautiful scraps of Ankara set in eco-friendly walnut, oak, or maple wood. They make the perfect statement rings, bursting with color and lots of personality! We just listed a few of them on our website and Etsy site and they are already receiving great reviews 🙂 Also, our customers have been asking us to add more organic hemp and cotton earrings to our lineup and we have been hard at work getting them ready in time for Summer and the Back-to-School season. The earrings pictured here are hand printed with water based paints and are created with organic hemp, cotton, or bamboo fabric. …

Dolls For a Cause: Beautiful Dolls for Children in Need

Greetings! We love to spread the word about the good works of our unheralded brothers and sisters around the world striving to make a difference in their community. Yesterday, I learned about a new mission being launched by my fellow artisan sister La’Tanya Alexander, fittingly called Dolls for a Cause. La’Tanya creates beautiful crocheted dolls and teddy bears for sick children, whether they are suffering from illness or disease, or struggling with life’s challenges. For every special child, La’Tanya customizes each doll, creating different skin colors, clothing, and specific details like glasses and more. She creates these beautiful dolls in exchange for more yarn simply to be able to continue to brighten the lives of children everywhere–this is truly a labor of love! Please contact sister La’Tanya Alexander via email at showmerci1@yahoo.com for more information or to order one of these dolls for that special child in your life. Let’s continue to uplift and support our visionaries and attend to our brothers and sisters in need near and far 🙂 Blessings! Peggy Olivia ❤

Charity of the Month: Girls Gotta Run!

Greetings! Yes, it has been a while since I posted on our blog due to a very looong semester at university. Now that spring semester is over, I am back to sharing information about some of the amazing charities we encounter that are really helping to make a difference. This month, we would like to donate to the Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF), an amazing organization that provides support for young impoverished girls in Ethiopia who aspire to become professional runners. As an avid marathon runner, I was really excited when I learned about GGRF and their mission to provide these beautiful girls with coaching, running shoes, training, food, and other programs and materials to ensure their success as athletes and leaders in their communities. With the help of local and international organizations, GGRF  is enabling young girls to achieve their educational, athletic, and individual goals by providing training, scholarships, and mentor ship programs. This month, proceeds from the sale of our eco-friendly products from our official website, http://www.zoetikmovement.com and our Etsy artisan shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Zoetik) will be donated …

A Day in the Life — A New Season of Gardening

Greetings! Over the past couple of weeks, my husband and I have been hard at work preparing our garden for the year ahead. After a rather unusual chilly winter season here in sunny Florida, some of our plants did not make it, but many of them did — so much to be thankful for 🙂 Here is a mini tour of our patio garden; we have a wide variety of foods, none of which are planted in the ground but are grown in containers of different sizes, shapes, and depths. Yes, you can grow a thriving garden out of containers, it just takes a little practice. Though our patio is quite large, it was sometimes a challenge to get containers with enough space and depth for certain foods to grow. And getting our babies the right amount of sunlight and water was something we needed to plan as well. We will share some of our tips from time to time so that you can have your own little garden, too. In light of the world …

Vegan Spiced Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies

Greetings! I am always on the lookout for new recipes and I thought this one was a quick and easy recipe for anyone to try. I found this great recipe at an awesome foodie blog called You Can’t Eat That. Just had to share it with you because its simple, easy to make, and delicious. I tweaked it little when I made it ( I used a vegan alternative to the margarine), but you can follow the directions exactly and get a really delicious snack 🙂 Ingredients: 3/4 cup margarine (you can forgo the supermarket margarine, for one at your local health food store) 1/3 cup sugar (you can use cane sugar, or another natural sweetener) 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup almond or rice milk (you can use soy as well, if you prefer) 1 cup oat flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp ginger powder 1/4 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg 3 cups quick cooking or rolled oatmeal 1 cup dried cranberries Directions: 1. Cream together the …

Newness! ~~ Ankara, Stones & Gems

Greetings! Now that the new year is in full swing, we are looking to expand our collection of eco-friendly merchandise to include a whole new line of colorful and sustainable products. In the coming months, we will have tons of organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo products along with a brand new collection of African Ankara products made from remnants left over from our previous projects and from our personal collection of rare and discontinued fabric. Some of these items will include fabric button earrings, tote bags, pillows, men’s cuff links, tie clips and travel bags.     We will also expand our popular collection of beaded stretch stack-able bracelets. We create these beautiful bracelets from natural rock, stones, and semi-precious gems from the earth. We love acquiring these materials from Mama Africa and majestic India, reflecting our mixed cultural heritage. Botswana Agate, Indian Agate, Ethiopian Opal, are just some of the beautiful materials that you will see in our collection this spring 🙂 As we shared in previous posts, we are continuing to work on …
